Unfortunately, this enigmatic culture has also remained distant from game developers.
Stories and legends about mythical worlds, monsters, multi-headed dragons breathing fire, magical potions, steel skin, and invincible heroes who have lived for millennia. These are old and real superheroes, whose tales of exploits are still alive today.

But now, a team from Bulgaria is breaking this monotonous status quo by introducing an extraordinary character into the world of computer games and the Beat 'em up genre. They do this through the game “Marko: Beyond Brave,” which tells one of the amazing, terrifying stories of the great King Marko and his unheard-of exploits.

This incredible character is actually a real person and a Bulgarian prince from the late Middle Ages. In times of subjugation, he showed unheard-of bravery and strength. It is said that he broke chains with his bare hands, knocked down five enemies with one blow, and crossed rivers in one stride.

This is briefly the story behind the main character in the eponymous game. But the game itself is even more interesting. The developers from Mechka studio place the screen in a 2D plane, and the mechanics are very similar to what we know from “Castlevania.” However, in “Marko: Beyond Brave,” the adventure element is very strongly emphasized. Many more ornaments are included, such as items that you can upgrade, skills to learn, alternative routes to take, and a world map. In “Marko: Beyond Brave,” for the first time in gameplay, you will be able to see the sacred symbols of the Glagolitic alphabet. This ancient and mystical alphabet is the prototype of today’s Cyrillic and is an alphabet that King Marko knew. It is part of the background and can be seen on the signposts. Although purely decorative, it creates a sense of mysticism and mystery. This will help you immerse yourself deeply in the atmosphere of this very interesting game.

Besides the adventure element, which is so interesting, in “Marko: Beyond Brave,” you will also have to prepare for a lot of action. After all, this superhero is known mainly for his bravery and strength. In the campaign against the mighty hydra, you will have to go through labyrinths of cave passages. They are full of various creatures that torment the population of the upper world and powerful demon lords who would not yield to you for anything.

Although Marko is very strong, the game is still quite difficult. Therefore, the authors have provided a local save, which will help you continue from the nearest place if you get lost. To restore your strength and equipment, you can climb back to the village, where you can buy everything you need. For this, you will need coins, which you can collect from defeated enemies. Also, certain relics can store various valuable materials that you can give to the village blacksmith to forge better weapons for you. Others contain knowledge, again written in Glagolitic. It appears as a single sacred symbol from the Glagolitic alphabet. In the explanation, you will learn what each of these symbols means and what powers it gives you. After collecting them, you can use them as sigils, choosing which ones to activate. You can place up to two sigils that will grant you their captured abilities.

So, friends - this is quite a long description for a beat ‘em up game, and yet it is not exhaustive. Still, the game is very interesting and avant-garde, bringing a fresh character into the worn-out standard superhero stories. Let’s hope that in the future, more such games will be produced to satisfy the fans’ thirst for good entertainment.
